the way you ask this question makes it sound like you mean someone who is a producer first, mc second--at least in terms of what people give them credit for being best at.
example of what i mean... dr. dre--yeah, he raps. but if you ask anyone, he'll usually be mentioned in a 'top producers' list, but neeeevvveerrrr in a best mc list (with good reason). eminem--exact opposite. not saying the beats he does work on aren't passable or even good in a few cases, but his production skills are nothing compared to how he is with a mic. as to who i have to go with...after Archetexture, i have to put up Tonedeff. favorite, though? shiiiiiiiiit...Erick Sermon. his beats are flat out FUN, and he's got crazy charisma. if Erick Sermon came through doing a show where he was the opener, the headliner, the dj, and the bartender, i'd still buy a ticket. |
